In a significant move to enhance local technical capacity and optimize national hydrocarbon resources, the management of NNPC Engineering and Technical Company (NETCO), a subsidiary of NNPC Ltd., recently conducted a high-level strategic visit to the leadership of SLB (formerly Schlumberger). This meeting marked a pivotal step in creating a collaborative framework that leverages both organizations’ strengths, especially through OneSubsea, to drive efficiency in the development of Nigeria’s deep offshore assets.
The primary purpose of this engagement was to finalize a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA), which emphasizes a mutual commitment to deploying global best practices and innovative technology within Nigeria’s oil and gas industry. By aligning SLB’s global presence with NETCO’s strategic mandate, the partnership aims to form a “unique winning team” capable of evaluating and developing oilfields to meet the highest international standards.
Key strategic focus areas are subsea innovation and capacity building. The collaboration places strong emphasis on subsea production systems and enhanced recovery. This focus comes at a crucial time as Nigeria prepares for major deepwater projects, including the Bonga South West development. This partnership will also provide NETCO with a new competitive edge. The partnership opportunity will empower the organisation to lead in complex technical domains, underpinned by SLB’s global expertise and technical capabilities.
Leadership from both organizations reaffirmed their long-term commitment to the Nigerian market during the session. The rapid completion of the MoA highlights the agility and determination of both parties to move quickly from dialogue to action. NETCO leadership stated, “We are open for business and committed to maintaining the momentum required to move forward. This partnership is not only beneficial to our respective organizations; it represents a strategic alignment with national priorities, delivering value for stakeholders and the Nigerian people.” As NETCO continues to strengthen its position within the subsea engineering sector, this alliance with SLB marks an important milestone in Nigeria’s journey toward energy security and technical self-reliance.
