NNPC SPORTS FIESTA: NETCO Celebrates Sports Ambassadors

The Sport contingent of the NNPC Engineering and Technical Company (NETCO} soar high at the recently concluded 14th NNPC Sports Fiesta held in Abuja, With the inspirational theme “Energy in Motion: Compete, Connect and Celebrate”, NNPC Limited, brought together a spirited assembly of athletes across its various business units to compete over a week in 13 sports categories including football, basketball, volley ball, chess, squash, scrabbles, 8 ball pool, golf, tennis, tables tennis, badminton, swimming and athletics.

NETCO’s contingent, which formed part of Team Excellence, representing NNPC’s Lagos and Warri zones contributed immensely to the team’s overall performance in different sports categories, as they finished in an impressive third-place position in the overall medal table.

NETCO’s Contingent Performance & Medal Achievement

Team Excellence, inclusive of the NETCO’s contingent put up a spectacular showing, Mrs Azuibike Chinyere won 3 medals in the swimming event, she won a gold medal in the free style veteran women’s category, 1 silver in the free style women, and another silver in the relay women team.

In the basketball men’s team event, Aristobulus Tauna won a silver. While Ernest Uzor won a gold medal in the men’s table tennis category.

In the women’s badminton event, Zainab Mohammed clinched a silver medal, while Yusuf Awoneye grabbed a silver in the men’s 4x100 metre relay team, in the same vein, Musa Abdullahi and Ahmad Rijiya won silver in the football men’s event, while in the athletics women’s 4x100 relay team, Mallum Anuma Chelseana won a bronze medal, as Cornelius Okon put up a spirited performance with the volley ball men’s team to win the gold medal.

NETCO’s contingent, contributed significantly to Team Excellence’s medal haul with a total of 3 gold, 7 silver and 1 bronze medal to help Team Excellence finish in third position behind Team Integrity (Port Harcourt/Benin) and Team Sustainability (Abuja/Kaduna).

MD NETCO, Salahuddeen Tahir and the entire NETCO’s management while receiving the team in NETCO’s corporate office in Lagos commended the team’s effort during the NNPC Sports Fiesta and charged them to always keep the NETCO flag flying high in any opportunity to represent NETCO

Engr. Salahuddeen reaffirm management willingness to support and encourage the sports men and women whenever time arises, calling them heroes who did not only compete but brought home medals. He said, “it shows that NETCO as an Engineering Company is always on top of whatever they do, he encouraged the team to keep making NETCO proud at all times.”

The event showcased both individual and team excellence while serving as a preparation ground for the upcoming 20th Nigeria Oil & Gas Industry Games (NOGIG) 2026.
