The Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board, Engr. Simbi Kesiye Wabote has commended the Management and staff of National Engineering and Technical Company Limited (NETCO) for the impressive records in the quest for the domestication of engineering in the country.  He particularly lauded the company and her consortium for the role played on Egina Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) project which was done within the country.


Speaking recently when he paid a business visit to NETCO in Lagos, Engr. Wabote stated that he was most impressed with the role NETCO has paid over the years in boosting the efforts of the Federal Government towards local content in the oil and gas industry.

According to him, there is no doubt NETCO has displayed high professional ability within the industry by collaborating with other companies to build capacity within the industry adding that he was also very impressed with NETCO’s self-funding arrangement which he described as the way to go.


He promised that in the quest to domicile engineering in the oil and gas industry, he will encourage consortium as that is the only way local companies can make it together by working together through support and collaboration. 

The Executive Secretary, NCDMB called on the consortium companies to document their capacity building exploits to ensure promote proper accountability and also promote the spirit of the consortium.


Engr. Wabote assured NETCO and her consortium team of his total support while promising that everything being equal, he will do his best to ensure all projects processes are carried out in professional manners so that no company is at a dis-advantage.

On mistakes made by indigenous engineering companies during Front End Engineering Design (FEED), he said this was not peculiar to Nigerian companies but all companies do that and ‘’no one is killed for it so why create the impression it’s a Nigerian thing’’.


The Executive Secretary, Nigerian Content Development Monitoring Board promised to support proprietary right within the oil and gas industry and stressed the need for practitioners win the industry to be pragmatic to promote a win-win situation.

He noted that the Board was set up to both monitor projects to promote domestication of projects, capacity building within the country as well as attract investors to execute projects in-country ‘’as if there is no project, there will be no development or capacity building’’.


Speaking earlier in a welcome address to the ES, NCDMB to NETCO, the Managing Director, Engr. Siky Aliyu lauded Engr. Wabote for doing a lot with the IOCs for the benefit of promoting Nigerian content and thanked him for fulfilling his promise to visit NETCO.

He described NETCO as the largest and oldest engineering company in the country.


The NETCO MD said the consortium came together to add value to grow in-country capacity adding that NETCO with almost 400 Engineers is leading other five major engineering companies in the country and thanked Engr. Wabote for his unflinching support at engaging the International Oil Companies (IOCs) to sustain the dream of Nigerian content.  He said the consortium intends to grow smaller companies.
